Heading 1

This event is special in many ways! The first is that it is the 5th year anniversary of the first St. John's Ball, held in 2017.  It was the event that got me interested in creating a vibrant Vienna Ball culture here in Chicago, supported by our churches.

It's also our second outdoor ball at Annunciation Parish. Fr. Thomas Loya, the pastor of Annunciation, was one of Theology of Dance's earliest and most enthusiastic supporters. Annunciation is also a Byzantine Rite parish with its roots in the Ukraine. The church will be open for tours and is a beautiful example of Ukrainian culture. In addition the parish has an award winning native wetland prairie restoration.

This year we are also excited to have the debut of our Ball orchestra who will be playing at all our future events! We will also be providing generous appetizers and drinks, and there will be a tent in case of rain.

Formal Attire is required, although please choose clothes suitable for summer and the outdoors. Period clothing from the Renaissance, Baroque, or Victorian periods is encouraged!  For shoes, we will be dancing on the grass, so please wear appropriate footwear!

Become a Benefactor!

We always try to keep our ticket costs down to make the event available to as many people as possible. However, providing live music and food along with the tent and decorations costs money. Donations help us to have better music programs, better culinary programs and better decorations. It allows us to pay professionals to be in positions of leadership, supporting them in their quest for excellence and allowing us to create the best program possible. Theology of Dance is a 501(c) 3 non-profit and your donation is completely tax deductible.

The Fine Print!

All attendees are expected to follow ball etiquette. Please come ready to dance, including with people you do not know! If you don't know ball etiquette make sure you attend the 6 pm beginner class, or even better attend some dance classes prior to the event.

This is waltz and polka event. We will be playing waltzes, Viennese waltzes and polkas, plus the occasional foxtrot. We will not be playing any swing or salsa at this event. We have other events for those!

Regarding minors under 18: This is a social dance, and it is assumed they will be dancing with adults and behaving in a mature fashion. If you confident that your child is able to do this they are more than welcome to attend!

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an appropriate adult (parent, older sibling or other guardian.) We will do everything we can to make the event a safe place for everyone in attendance, but we are unable to keep track and watch every body, and it is the guardians responssibilty to watch minors and let staff know if there is a problem with another attendee. No more than 6 minors for each guardian.

Refunds: Full refunds are available up to June 23rd 5 pm. No refunds after that.
